Vip Trip Madrid Day five

Writer: Linsay LusyneLinsay Lusyne

Our last full day. We wake up in Toledo and are stoked about our late check out of 12pm. We use this time to have a good breakfast and check out the other side of Toledo.

Remember those escalators I was talking about in the previous blog post?Integrated into the mountain where Toledo is built on is a long upwards hallway carved out of the mountain wall. It is definitely a better way of going up towards the town. It motivates us to discover some more in Toledo. We head up the mountain on 6!! Escalators. With a big smile on our face we are in the old town in no time.

Toledo is definitely worth visiting and a lot of people do. We make sure to stop at a bakery and treat ourselves on a Mazapan. A treat made from Marzipan with filling, a typical Toledo candy.

Time to head back to Madrid, we feel that the time went by way too fast. It’s not over yet we still have 2 major activities planned for Madrid. 2 activities that are perfect to end our trip in style. We make it back to our hotel, the same hotel we started this trip with. Happy to find out that they provided us with the exact same room as on Monday (little note to not be shy to ask for the same room in the hotels that you go back to regularly) Once we are settled back into the hotel it is time to head out.We feel that we covered a lot of Madrid on our first day and are excited to meet our guide at the Royal Palace. One destination we have not been to yet. Not only will we be getting a tour from the city with a professional guide, he will be driving us around in a private tuk tuk. The covered, warm tuk tuk with added blankies is the perfect trip on this utterly rainy day. It’s so rainy at this point the roads look like rivers on some parts. We meet our guide Enrique with a big smile. He makes us feel comfortable and we are ready to go. We tour around the Royal Palace and the cathedral, we visit neighbourhoods like La Latina and the Jewish quarter and he tells us tails and stories about the city. Enrique himself is native to Madrid and you can feel his passion for the city.We are lucky, the biggest rainfall happened while we were touring around in the tuk tuk. Our next activity is the main activity of this trip, we are heading towards a Tablao, to see flamenco. This Tablao is very private and authentic. They welcome us at the door and we receive a place to sit with a drink. The bar is gorgeous, the atmosphere feels relaxed and exciting. The event takes place in the basement, exactly how Flamenco used to be helt in the past. We finish our drink and they guide us down the basement. It seems that we are getting the best seats. While everyone is sitting in 3 rows on the side, Mike and I are sitting right in front, in the middle, in our own little nook. I feel so grateful for them accommodating us, as the show starts, the dancers are so close by that we can feel the wind blowing off their dresses. The show starts very gentle and emotional, with only one guitar player and dimmed light. Soon the group becomes larger with one Boxdrummer, a cello player, a singer and 2 dancers, one male and one female. For some reason this show is a bit emotional to me. I feel grateful for so many things at this moment. The trip went well, Mike is very happy with everything and we did not have any major hurdles. The weather was challenging, but somehow very kind to us. Waiting for the big rain pours on the moments we were inside. I made a new friend, made new memories and I realize I want to make so many more. I want to help more people to travel, this is my new purpose in life. Let’s all travel, deal with the challenges we have and make more memories.

In the Flamenco Tablao. Linsay and Mike enjoy drinks at a table under a chandelier, smiling. The setting has ornate chairs and purple curtains, creating a warm ambiance.

Two people in a white tuk-tuk, one wearing sunglasses, inside a parking garage. "ecotuktuk.com" and "45" visible on the vehicle.

Two people smiling in rain jackets, posing for a selfie on a cloudy day. Ornate railing and horse statues in the background.
